FLIR donates high tech display to Evergreen Aviation Museum

Wilsonville-based FLIR Systems announced Thursday they are donating an educational display on the history of thermal imaging technology in aviation to McMinnville’s Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum.
This high-tech multimedia exhibit features an integrated thermal imaging camera and display to give museum guests a firsthand experience of thermal imaging. An accompanying video documents the ways FLIR’s systems have been used in aviation over the last three decades.
FLIR’s development of compact, lightweight airborne thermal imaging systems in the late 1970s revolutionized the industry by making this technology available to law enforcement and resource management departments around the world. Since then, FL
IR has done more business with federal and municipal agencies than all other thermal imaging system manufacturers combined.
“FLIR is proud to donate this exhibit to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum,” said Andy Teich, President of FLIR’s commercial vision systems division. “We have worked hard to make this powerful technology available to as many aviators around the world as possible, and our affordable Enhanced Vision System cameras will soon make thermal imaging as common as GPS in general aviation aircraft.”
Philip Stuva, director of development for the museum, praised FLIR for being at the heart of Oregon’s high tech business base in the Willamette Valley.
“We are excited to partner with FLIR Systems to offer an interactive educational exhibit at our museum that helps visitors understand the science behind thermal imaging,” Stuva said. “FLIR is a local company that has remained at the forefront of innovation in the field of aviation and we are proud to showcase their technological contributions.”
A pioneer in infrared technology, FLIR designs, manufactures and supports thermal imaging systems and subsystems for industrial, scientific, government, commercial and firefighting applications. For more information, visit
