OREGON CITY -- Approximately 30 people rallied Thursday morning at the Public Services Building, where the Clackamas County commissioners conduct business, voicing concern about an informational postcard that the board sent out in January regarding Measures 66 and 67.

Cindy Tyree, a Wilsonville resident who organized what she called a press conference, said that the county's spending $32,000 on the postcard was, she feels, a violation of election laws. She also said she will be filing a new complaint with the Oregon Secretary of State's office about the postcards.

Earlier this year, a complaint was filed with the Secretary of State's office about the postcards, but investigators dismissed it for lack of evidence -- something Tyree says she has addressed this time around.

"We have the evidence now that the Secretary of State was looking for in the first investigation," Tyree wrote in a press release. "The fact is there was plenty of information available to the county, the county just chose to ignore the information because it didn't fit in with the commissioners' personal political agendas."

Many people at the rally held signs that read everything from "Bob Austin, snake in the grass" and "Do you hear us yet?" to "Dump our corrupt commission" and "Vote the tyrants out!"

County officials have maintained that the postcards were appropriate and legal.

It seems to me that $32,000 is nothing compared with the $120,000 wasted by the current County Clerk in reprinting ballets unnecessarily. Why is the Spokesman not covering that story?

Simons, the Spokesman is covering the ballot mistake by the county clerk. Go back to the home page and look at the headlines. They've also got a story in this week's paper, on the front page.
