The confidence is oozing every time they hit the floor.

And rightfully so.

The Wilsonville girls basketball team earned its sixth straight victory by 20 points or more — and ninth overall — in Friday's 58-26 win over rival Sherwood at home.

During the current winning streak, the Wildcats have beaten opponents by an average of 23.9 points per game.

“We have so much confidence right now,” said junior Kellie Krueger, who scored a game-high 22 points on Friday. “We've got to be confident but not cocky. We can't underestimate anybody.”

Wilsonville's size and length up front have bothered opponents all season long with a front-line of Krueger (6-1), and seniors Ashley Walters (6-3) and Megan Arnoldy (5-11). Guard Emily Dungey also stands 5-11.

“It's our length that's helping,” coach Cindy Anderson said. “If you look, 5-11, 5-11, 6-1, 6-3, that's pretty good length. And (point guard) Alyssa (Clark) is getting better at anticipating and getting into passing lanes and we're tipping and going after balls. So it's coming together.”

The Wildcats (13-4 overall, 7-0 Northwest Oregon) hold a one game lead over Glencoe (13-5, 6-1) for first place in the NWOC as both teams will match up on Tuesday.

Against Sherwood, Wilsonville led from the get-go as it took a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and increased it to 39-14 heading into halftime.

Sherwood never threatened the rest of the way, as the Bowmen had no players who scored in double figures. Junior Megan Shields led Sherwood with eight points.

Dungey had nine points, and Clark had seven points. Arnoldy chipped in seven points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Walters had two points, seven rebounds and eight blocks.

“We're just working real well together,” Krueger said. “We played amazing defense (Friday). Ashley had so many blocked shots. We played really well.”

Anderson said Tuesday’s game against Glencoe will be crucial as the Crimson Tide nearly defeated the Wildcats, 33-28, on Jan. 5.

“We didn’t play particularly well over there and they played very well,” Anderson said. “So I want to just get organized and not let them pack it in affect us as much as they let it.”

On Friday, Wilsonville begins its final stretch with five out of the last six games on the road.
