We’ve all enjoyed the treats and the trimmings during the holiday season, and now it’s time to be good your body. Whether your New Year’s resolution is to be active, or make new friends, or even to shed a few pounds, the Wilsonville Community Center is a great place to start.
Our certified personal trainer Brad Moore will do a quick evaluation with you to discuss your fitness and wellness goals, and then recommend classes or exercise programs that will help you get there. For a more comprehensive assessment, schedule a Functional Movement Screening evaluation with Brad, and find out where the strengths, weaknesses and imbalances in your movements are. Both of these are free, so there is no reason to put it off.
Brad can be reached at 503-570-1522.
Arts and culture
Put your thinking caps on, the Wilsonville Academy of Lifelong Learning is now in session. In our second session of Wilsonville Academy, the creative arts will be represented, beginning with a presentation on the History of the Aurora Colony presented by Patrick Harris. There is no charge for these lectures, but we ask that you call us at 503-682-3727 to pre-register.
History of the Aurora Colony
This presentation will discuss some of the history of the Aurora colony, a German Christian communal society that thrived in Aurora from 1856 to 1883.
Patrick Harris also will share some interesting observations about his own personal family history and how he came to discover his ties to settlers at Jamestown and also to a veteran of the Revolutionary War. This session is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the center.
A Whole New Old
The documentary, “A Whole New Old,” is aimed at exposing the issue of ageism and its negative impact. It also features and celebrates the benefits of participating in creative expression as an older adult.
This shorter film “trailer” will be presented by Nancy Eileen Wolske, executive director of the Geezer Gallery, who will offer personal insights into the making of the documentary.
