The Wilsonville High School basketball programs will hold a fundraiser called Hoops for Haiti on Friday night as part of its doubleheader against rival Sherwood at home.
The event’s proceeds will go to Mercy Corps and Northwest Medical Teams to help the recovery efforts following the earthquake in Haiti.
WHS senior Megan Arnoldy, who is a member of the girls basketball team, is helping organize the project and said she is hoping to see the entire community come out.
“I figured that with the crowd that usually comes to the (Wilsonville) boys-Sherwood home game that it would be a good opportunity to raise money for Haiti,” Arnoldy said.
Friday’s game was originally scheduled to be a
road game for the girls team and a home game for the boys.
Arnoldy said she asked WHS athletic director Mike Henderson if they could make Friday’s game a home doubleheader, and was successful.
“We’re trying to make it a community event,” Arnoldy said.
All of Sherwood’s fans are expected to wear red, and all of Wilsonville’s fans are encouraged to wear blue to the game. T-shirts made special for the game will be available for sale for $7.
A shooting contest during halftime of the boys basketball game will also be held to raise funds.
The girls game against Sherwood begins at 5:45 p.m. with the boys game following at 7:15 p.m. at WHS.
