The Wilsonville girls basketball team prepares to take the court for warmups before its quarterfinal matchup today against Hermiston.

EUGENE -- The Wilsonville Spokesman will be in Eugene this week for the OSAA Class 5A basketball state championships.

The Wilsonville boys and girls basketball teams will begin their quest toward the state championship with the girls beginning today. The Wildcats take on Hermiston at 3:15 p.m. here at McArthur Court in Eugene at the University of Oregon.

Passing the players along the way in the gymnasium, they look to be ready for their game coming up in a little more than an hour as Willamette and Ashland play in the quarterfinal opener right now.

Wilsonville enters the game having won 17 games in a row, and earned the right to go to the quarterfinals after beating No. 7 Dallas, 48-34, on Friday night at home.

The Wildcats enter the game 21-4 overall, going a perfect 14-0 in Northwest Oregon Conference play to capture the league championship.

Hermiston arrives to Eugene after taking down Madison in the second round of the OSAA Class 5A state playoffs with a 58-41 victory at home on Friday night.

The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Kathryn Barnitz's team-high 14 points. Sophomore guard Andrea Waters chipped in 11 points.

Hermiston finished second in the Intermountain Conference, and is currently 17-5 overall, going 10-4 in conference play under coach Steve Hoffert.
