Roundup: Wilsonville baseball team takes second, playoffs next
Wildcats to face Klamath Union in first round of state next week

The
Wilsonville baseball team
clinched the No. 2 seed out of the Northwest Oregon Conference with Friday’s 3-2 victory over Parkrose at home on senior day.
The Wildcats (19-7 overall, 15-6 NWOC) qualified for the Class 5A state playoffs for the first time since the 2007 season after missing it the last two years.
With the win, Wilsonville won its third series in a row, and won nine out of its last 10 games to end the regular season.
On Friday, the Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning that started with junior
Spencer Cumiford
’s RBI double to score junior
Chase Lio
.
Senior
Adam VavRosky
followed with a two-r
un home run that also scored Cumiford.
Cumiford earned the victory, going seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) off five hits with seven strikeouts.
Wilsonville honored its five seniors, which include VavRosky,
Drew Rawlings
,
Ethan Rogers
and
Matt Hughes
.
The Wildcats lost the second game of the series, 4-3, at Parkrose on May 12; and won the first game, 2-1, at home on May 11.
Wilsonville will travel for the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs when it faces Klamath Union (15-10, 11-5 Southern Sky) – the No. 2 seed from the Southern Sky Conference – on Tuesday, May 25.
SOFTBALL
Wildcats break skid:
The
Wilsonville softball team
broke a seven-game losing streak with Thursday’s 11-2 victory over Parkrose at Parkrose High School.
The Wildcats (8-18 overall, 6-15 NWOC) finished seventh in the conference.
Wilsonville lost its home finale with a 7-2 defeat to St. Helens last Wednesday, and lost 12-2 to Liberty on the road on May 11.
The Wildcats graduated four seniors, including

Amanda Peters

Lacey Parham
and
Tyree Wilson
.
Wilsonville has not reached the postseason since 2002 when it advanced to the Class 3A quarterfinals.
BOYS LACROSSE
Ending on high note
: The
Wilsonville boys lacrosse team
ended the regular season with a 19-5 victory over Century on Friday at the 53rd Ave. Fields in Hillsboro.
The Wildcats (11-3 overall, 8-2 NWOC) finished with 113 points in the conference – 13 behind league champion Liberty (14-2, 10-0).
Wilsonville lost a key matchup with Liberty, 10-8, on May 11 at home.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Two wins to finish year:
The
Wilsonville girls lacrosse team
ended the regular season with a 13-2 victory over Forest Grove at home.
The Wildcats (9-8 overall, 8-8 NWOC) finished fifth in the nine-team conference – seven games behind league champion Century (16-2, 15-1).

each scored two goals; and
