The Charbonneau resident piloted an Eighth Air Force B-17 during World War 2 and was shot down over Berlin just three months before the end of the war.
Some 12,000 Boeing B-17 heavy bombers were built before and during World War II. Nearly 5,000 were shot down, most over France, Belgium and Germany.
